About the Department



The department of Civil Engineering was started in the year 2002 with an intake of 120 students. The department boasts of highly qualified and experienced faculty from different background of Civil Engineering. The department was accredited by NBA-AICTE for the period of 2008-2011.The department organizes many industrial visits, guest lectures, in plant training every semester and a National Conference/Symposium is been conducted each year. Further, an AICTE sponsored research work was done by our renowned professors Dr.M.Thiruvengadam and Dr.D.Sivakumar worth a total of Rs.15.65 Lakhs. The faculty members are enrolled in various membership as well as the professional society like ISTE, IE, ICI, CAE, IAH, IWRS,IWWR,IAPC,IPH,SES etc. The Students have undergone inplant training in NAC, Tamil Nadu Housing Board, Chennai Port Trust, CIDC, Composite Technology park, Engineering Project Ltd, National academy of construction and the Industrial visit in Ranipet Tannery Effluent Treatment Plant, Walajahpet, Sathanur Dam, Pennaiyar river, Thiruvannamalai, Altitude infra structures, Madipakkam, BSR’S Balaji Enclave, Neerkundram, BSR Mall, OMR road, ISRO etc.

It gives the department immense enlightening dignity to announce throughout the academic period.

160 papers have been published in renowned journals indexed in Scopus and 3 patents received so far. The Department of Civil Engineering bags the winning title in the Inter department cricket match held at college campus on 08-Feb-2018. The Inter-department volleyball tournament held at college campus on 10-Jan-2018.

  • To create, disseminate and integrate Civil Engineering knowledge through quality teaching practices for solving real world problems.
  • To promote innovative thinking, quantitative reasoning, attitude and skills of Civil Engineers for handling the challenges in the future.

PROGRAMME EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEOS)

  • Graduates will acquire the knowledge from Civil Engineering Program to contribute as competent technical professionals at entry level or middle level in an Organization.
  • Graduates will evolve to possess specialized domain knowledge in Civil Engineering through higher education.
  • Graduates will utilize best practices bestowed by the Civil Engineering Program to excel as comprehensive entrepreneurs.

  • PO1: Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

The board of studies meeting was held virtually using Google meet platform to finalise the B.E- Civil Engineering Syllabi for the courses offered in Semester IV & Semester V and Open elective courses

Minutes of Meeting

  • Dr. E. Kamalanaban, Principal, Vel Tech High Tech, Welcomed the BoS Committee Members and introduced the Subject Experts, Industrial Expert and Meritorious Alumni in the meet.
  • The meet was then taken forwarded by Dr. V. R. Ravi, Dean Academics, who
  • delivered the institutional profile and invited the BoS Chairman, Dr.S.Govindasami, Professor, Controller of the Examination to propose the Civil Engineering syllabi to Experts.
  • The Civil Engineering BoS Chairman Professor, Controller of the Examination - Dr.S.Govindasami , proposed the Syllabi for the courses offered in Semester IV & V and Open Elective Courses offered for other departments students in detail for the Expert’s suggestion and approval.
  • On completion, the experts appreciated and approved the Syllabi of IV Semester & V Semester courses and open elective courses offered by Department of Civil Engineering with minor corrections.

A hearty welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at Veltech Hightech Dr.Rangarajan Dr.Sakunthala Engineering College.The Civil Engineering Department was established in 2002 and It is located in an empathetic and enthusiastic environment.  The department offers one undergraduate program B.E. in Civil Engineering with an intake of 30 and postgraduate programs with Structural Engineering with an intake 18.The department has 2 Ph.D. Faculties and11 Assistant professors.  

Our expert and experienced faculties are committed towards excellence in teaching and research. We take pride in the quality of research our faculties do in the technologies and the world class graduates we produce.

Our graduates work in almost every technology in the area of construction, environmental, water resources, transportation and geotechnical engineering. We genuinely care about our society, culture, students and their future. With a continuously evolving academic curriculum which lays great emphasis on practical training, we provide quality education and training to our students.. For the overall development of the student; department of Civil engineering is also associated with memberships of professional bodies such as Institution of Engineers (India) and Society for Environment and Sustainable Development. Students have taken part in various competitions and won National Level top positions in competitions.

Our department also provides internship to students for better learning, department has the MoUs with well-known industry and research institute like B.T.R CONSTRUCTION, CADD Center Training Services Pvt. Ltd,

STRENGTH OF MATERIALS LABORATORY

 

Strength of Materials Laboratory focused on demonstrating the basic principles in the area of strength and mechanics of materials and structural analysis to the undergraduate students through a series of experiments is the objective of the strength of materials lab.

The following material properties of Steel Rods, Wires, Wood, Paver Block, Tiles, Bricks, Hollow Blocks, Hume Pipes can be determined in the laboratory:

The survey laboratory is equipped with all the latest survey equipment’s such as Total station, Auto level & GPS. Consultancy services are offered in the field of surveying of land, Preparation of contour, setting out works and partition of land's properties in different districts of Tamil Nadu.
